Dervis Eroglu was elected as the new president of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The formal results of the presidential election in TRNC, which took place on April 18, were published in Official Gazette on Thursday.

Accordingly; 125,294 of 164,072 electors cast vote, and 121,982 of them were valid, while 3,312 were invalid. The participation rate in the election was announced as 76.37 percent.

The list of candidates according to the votes they received is as follows;

Dr. Dervis Eroglu (National Unity Party-UBP): 61,422 vote, 50.35 percent
Mehmet Ali Talat (independent): 52,294 vote, 42.87 percent
Tahsin Ertugruloglu (UBP): 4,647 vote, 3.81 percent
Zeki Besiktepeli (independent): 1,967 vote, 1.61 percent
Mustafa Kemal Tumkan (independent): 964 vote, 0.79 percent
Arif Salih Kirdag (independent): 520 vote, 0.43 percent
Ayhan Kaymak (independent) 168 vote, 0.14 percent.

Higher Board of Election declared Dervis Eroglu president as he received more than half of the votes.

Eroglu will take oath at Parliament on Friday, and take over the post from TRNC's second president Mehmet Ali Talat.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will also attend the ceremony.
