France harshly condemned the attacks staged on civilians in Syrian capital Damascus early Wednesday.

French Foreign Ministry condemned the deadly attacks attributed to the Syrian regime which killed hundreds of civilians, in a statement released on Wednesday.

"The perpetrators must answer for these intolerable acts. France is calling for all light to be shed on the allegations of the use of chemical weapons during these attacks," the ministry said.

Government spokesperson Najat Vallaud-Belkacem quoted French President Francois Hollande calling UN inspectors to visit the site of an alleged chemical weapons attack outside Damascus, on Wednesday.

Syrian Revolution General Commission (SRGC) claimed Assad forces attacked Ghouta, the eastern suburb of Damascus, with chemical weapons, killing 635 people and wounding over 3,600.
