Only days after Sadiq Khan was elected the first Muslim Mayor of London, Humza Yousaf was elected to the Scottish Parliament.
In a powerful demonstration of multiculturalism, he gave his oath to the parliament first in English, then in his native language of Urdu. Humza Yousaf is of Pakistani heritage
Humza, a member of the Scottish National Party, was part of 129 members who took the oath in the parliament’s chamber with other members taking their oath in other languages such as Gaelic, Doric and Scots.
He said that he ‘will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’ and ended with ‘so help me God.’
