French President Francois Hollande Thursday denounced the likely use of chemical weapons in Syria.
At least 1,300 were killed in a chemical weapons attack staged by the Syrian regime in the suburbs of the Ghouta region near Damascus in the early hours of Wednesday, which the Syrian government strongly denies.
Hollande held a phone conversation with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
He hailed Ban's commitment "to proceed with a rapid and impartial investigation" into the alleagations of a chemical weapons attack near Damascus, said a statement released from Hollande's office.
