Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom said on Wednesday he will propose Viktor Orban, leader of centre-right Fidesz party, to be the country's next prime minister and will ask him to form a government.
"The President must propose a new prime minister at the first session of parliament ... and I will nominate Viktor Orban as prime minister at the inaugural session," Solyom told a news conference after meeting Orban.
Orban said he was prepared to form the next government.
Parliament is planned to hold its first session on May 14.
Orban's Fidesz party won a two-thirds parliamentary majority at elections earlier this month, ousting the Socialists.
