Famous British actress Emma Thompson said UK's response to refugee crisis may be taking roots from "racism" during the interview with BBC Thursday.

"We are not even meeting our quotas, it's really shaming... So, I think it's got a lot to do with racism. I think if this people were white, Europeans... we would feel quite differently about it. We're so unskillful in responses to strangers in our shores," she said.

Thompson also expressed hopes that there were some statesmen and women who had a "sense of decency or common humanity."

"I wish there was a person who'd tell everyone that these people are not coming over here, because they want an easy ride, but because they've been through hell," she added.
