The results obtained during the G20 summit in Germany are reasonable under the current conditions, said the Italian premier on Saturday.
Paolo Gentiloni’s remarks came during a news conference following the two-day G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.
"The goal was to achieve appropriate results. We have reached reasonable results,” Gentiloni said adding that reaching promising results was difficult under current conditions.
Gentiloni said there were “steps forward” with regards to the migrant issue, but not enough to arrive at a solution.
"Our neighbors know that our efforts in rescuing and hosting are not limitless," Gentiloni said.
Gentiloni noted that rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea were now being dealt on a more international level thanks to Rome's efforts..
"This contributed to the reduction of the number of people who lost their lives in this transition route, but we cannot leave all the refugee hosting to a single country," he said. "We have taken steps forward on this issue, but we believe that they are still inadequate.”
According to the UN, 85 percent of the 80,000-plus migrant arrivals this year in the Eu landed in Italy with the rest coming ashore in Greece, Spain and the island of Cyprus.Güncelleme Tarihi: 09 Temmuz 2017, 01:37
