It has been revealed that a 44-year-old British man with mental disabilities starved to death last year after his state benefits were cut.

Mark Wood weighed just 35 kilograms when he was found dead in August, four months after his benefits were cut to just £40 a week.

His doctor had previously written a letter to the job center to protest against the benefit cuts, describing Mr. Wood as “extremely unwell and absolutely unfit for any work whatsoever.”

“Please do not stop or reduce his benefits as this will have ongoing, significant impact on his mental health. He simply is not well enough to cope with this extra stress. His mental and medical condition is extremely serious,” Dr. Ward wrote in a letter.

Descriibed as a sweet, gentle and proud man by his sister, Mr. Wood is understood to have hidden his dire financial situation from others as to not 'impose' on them.
