Much of Britain's airspace will remain closed to flights below 20,000 feet (6,000 metres) due to ongoing fears about the danger posed by volcanic ash from Iceland, aviation officials said on Tuesday.

The National Air Traffic Service (NATS), which controls UK airspace, said Scotland's airspace will be open, while the skies over the rest of Britain will be closed below the ash cloud.

It will issue a further statement at 1400 GMT.
