The alleged actions of NATO to change the strategic power balance in Eastern Europe has disturbed Russia, the Kremlin press office spokesperson said Wednesday.

"NATO is approaching Russia's border and makes actions to change the strategic power balances, which disturbs Russia," Dmitriy Peskov told reporters in the Russian capital of Moscow.

Peskov said that those developments had compelled Russia to take several precautions to protect its security and interests.

He reiterated Russian President Vladimir Putin's remark Tuesday that "Russia is not approaching the border of any country".

The spokesperson said that Russia was seeking cooperation based on "constructive and mutual" benefit.

The spokesperson's remarks came days after top American officials said that the U.S. military was thinking about deploying troops and heavy weapons to deter "Russian aggression" in Eastern Europe.
