An empty refugee dorm in the town of Meissen in Saxony, located in the eastern part of Germany, has been burned down on Sunday night as a result of arson, police said. 

Local police confirmed that the fire broke out in two areas of the building, used for sheltering refugees, and that inflammable materials used at the scene had been used.

Police have launched an investigation.

The Minister-President of Saxony, Stanislaw Tillich described the incident as "a coward arson attack".
