Russia: exchange imprisoned pilot for 'path to Crimea'

World Bulletin / News Desk

Advisor to the Chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine [SBU] Yuriy Tandit claims that a person close to the Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to exchange illegaly captured Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadiya Savchenko on the overland "path from Rostov into Crimea."

"All kinds of people from Russia also tried to take part in this process: not only officials communicated with us, but also non-state actors, including those that are related to different social organizations and the people who presented themselves as being very close to the circle of the Russian President Putin. One of them, indeed, had a conversation with us and offered within its authority to consider the release of Nadiya Savchenko on the principle: 'We give you Savchenko, and you let us make our way from Rostov to Crimea."

As noted, the adviser to the chairman of the SBU said that everything will be done to set Savchenko free, which is now on trial in Russia for the murder of Russian journalist and illegally crossing the Russian border, but Ukraine will not lead the dialogue from a position of power.
