According to sources at the Cairo International Airport, a six-member military delegation arrived in Cairo in the early hours of Monday and was received by Egyptian military officials at the airport.
Putin is due to arrive in Egypt later Monday on a two-day visit upon the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi.
The visit coincides with remarkable improvement in Egyptian-Russian relations in recent months.
Relations between Cairo and Moscow started to warm following the ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi by the army in mid-2013.
An exchange of visits by the two countries' top officials testified to the improvement.
Local media reports have recently suggested that Egypt was planning to buy Russian arms worth billions of dollars.
