The Department of Combating Organized Crime, part of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, detained nine people for illegal migration on the border as part of an international joint operation against human trafficking in cooperation with the Hungarian police.
The nine detained people, aged between 23 and 66, are suspected of organizing illegal migration for 100 people on the Serbia-Macedonia border. Suspects are also accused of charging €1,300 ($1,600) per person.
They were taken to the Prosecutor's Office to continue the process, the Serbian Ministry of the Interior said.
The police also found 39 illegal immigrants in a minivan with a Serbian license plate in Vranje town in southern Serbia. An underage driver and a 19-year old were detained.
