The number of people arrested on terrorism charges has reached alarming levels in the U.K., local British media reports have revealed.
According to British daily The Guardian, “there were 299 arrests for terrorism-related offences in the 12 months to March 2015, a rise of 31 percent compared on the previous year and the highest number since data collection began in September 2001, Home Office data revealed. Of the 299 people arrested, 118 were charged with an offence”.
Also, within the same period, 35 were women.
Last year, British police arrested more than 200 people on suspicion of terrorism-related offences. Police believe that more than 700 British people travelled to Syria to join extremist groups such as ISIL.
