A survey by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights has found that a third of all women in the EU have experienced either physical or sexual violence since the age of 15, corresponding to 62 million women in the continent.
After interviewing 42,000 women, it was found that "one in ten women has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 15, and one in 20 has been raped."
While 22% had suffered from physical or sexual violence by a partner, 67% did not report the most serious incidents of domestic violence to the police. The report also found a strong link between violent acts and alcohol consumption.
18% of women said they had been the victims of stalking and 55% said they had been sexually harassed, with the workplace being a common place for harassment.Last Mod: 05 Mart 2014, 18:02
