Turkish Cypriot President designates UBP leader to form new govt

President Dervis Eroglu of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) designated on Monday National Unity Party (UBP) leader to form the new government.

Under the constitution, UBP leader Irsen Kucuk has to present the new government list to president within 15 days.

Kucuk said that he would meet with authorized organs of UBP, and then rapidly gather leaders of all political parties represented at parliament.

Kucuk added that he thought he would present the government list before 15 days expired.

The recent distribution of seats at the TRNC parliament is as follows:

Meanwhile, a by-election will be held during the local elections on June 27th for the vacant seat after election of former Prime Minister Eroglu as the third president of the TRNC on April 18th.

UBP won the general elections in TRNC in April 2009 by getting 43.97 of the votes.
