Turkish Cyprus parliament starts talks on govt program

The program of a minority government established under the leadership of Irsen Kucuk began to be debated at the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) parliament's general assembly on Monday.

Prior to the beginning of discussions on the government's program, information was presented to the deputies on the membership of the committees at the TRNC parliament.

The Democrat Party (DP), following the resignation of Iskele Deputy Ejder Aslanbaba, lost its right to form a group and its right to be represented in committees after the total number of seats held by the DP fell to 4.

A decision made by the Advisory Council approved five seats for the Economy, Finance, Budget and Planning Committee, Legal and Political Affairs Committee, Administrative and Social Affairs Committee and all other research committees.

Accordingly, the National Unity Party (UBP) will have three deputies while the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) will have two deputies in TRNC parliamentary committees.

Debates on the government's program actually began on Monday following the information presented to the deputies on committees.

Depending on the discussions and their length, a vote of confidence on the minority government's program will take place either on Wednesday or Thursday.
