Turkish Cyprus pledges reforms for small-medium businesses

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus's (TRNC) Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun said Monday the TRNC aimed at making small and medium scale businesses more effective.

Speaking at a conference co-hosted by the Turk Ekonomi Bankasi (TEB), Foreign Economic Relations Board, Turkish-TRNC Business Council and Chamber of Commerce of the TRNC in Girne, Atun said that "we are reviewing all legislation that put barriers in front of the economy and those that prevented the development of the markets".

As the Ministry of Economy and the Turkish Cypriot government, our goal is to increase efficiency in the economy. The public structure should slowly leave its place to the private sector. The public sector must become more efficient. Foreign investments are vital for our country. A duty of the private sector is to establish partnerships with foreign entrepreneurs. The TRNC government will make all necessary structural reforms. During this period, the Turkish Cypriot business world has to establish partnerships with foreign entities, Atun stressed.

Touching on money saving measures of the government, Atun said that such measures would benefit the TRNC and its economy.

The TRNC government is working on the money saving measures with all good will, Atun also said.
