Turkish Cyprus President undergoes heart surgery in Turkey

President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has undergone heart surgery in Ankara to clear a partially blocked artery.

Tevfik Ali Kucukbas, head of the Guven hospital, said in a statement that the surgery was successful and Eroglu was in intensive care unit.

President Eroglu is set to meet with Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias under Cyprus talks on December 28, but it's unclear whether that meeting will take place because
no date for Eroglu's return to the island has been set.

The two leaders will meet with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in Geneva, Switzerland in late January to assess progress in Cyprus talks.
