Turkish, Greek leaders to re-meet after cancellation

Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu and the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias will remeet on June 15 under the extensive talks.

Following the cancellation of today's scheduled meeting between Eroglu and Christofias, Eroglu's special envoy Kudret Ozersay and Christofias's special envoy Yorgos Yakovou, met this afternoon and rescheduled the next meeting between the two leaders.

Following a two and a half hour meeting with Yakovou, Ozersay said the next meeting of leaders within the scope of the extensive talks would take place on June 15.

Ozersay said the meeting was very constructive and informative and they discussed many issues. He said they would remeet with Yakovou on June 9 prior to the meeting of leaders.

The meeting of leaders which was scheduled to for this morning was cancelled upon Christofias' request. Eroglu was there on time for the meeting however Christofias showed up one hour later and leaders left after talking to each other for a short time.

Eroglu who commented on the cancellation of today's meeting said Christofias did not show up without informing. Eroglu said Christofias was disturbed by Eroglu's remarks saying only his letter to UN Secretary General was binding for him. He said Christofias perceived this as an attempt to open the foundations of extensive talks to discussion.

He said their aim was to reach an agreement by the end of the year and they did not intend to create crisis or leave the negotiation table.

Eroglu said he already told Christofias that they would discuss all chapters and sub-topics in their first meeting, adding that there was no need to be oversensitive.
