UK to host NATO 2014 Summit

British Prime Minister David Cameron announced on Friday that the UK would host the 2014 NATO Summit.

Premier Cameron stated that the year 2014 would be an important moment in the history of the alliance as the NATO mission in Afghanistan would draw to a close.

"NATO is the cornerstone of our national security, and has been for more than 60 years. We have no stronger allies and no closer friends than the other 27 NATO members," he noted.

The last NATO Summit hosted in the UK was back in 1990, during which Margaret Thatcher said in her opening speech that NATO was assisting the Soviet bloc in its democratization.

The date and venue for the summit have not yet been announced. NATO summits usually take place once every two years, but the last Summit was held in Chicago, US last year.
