Former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who was released from prison last month, arrived in Germany late on Friday for treatment for a back problem at the invitation of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
After arriving at Berlin's Schonefeld airport, Tymoshenko was immediately taken to Charité hospital, according to German news agency DPA.
A press conference will be held at the hospital on Saturday; however, Tymoshenko is not expected to attend.
Tymoshenko went to Berlin for treatment after attending a meeting of the European People’s Party in Dublin on March 6-7.
The 53-year-old was previously examined by a team of health experts from Charité hospital while in prison in Ukraine.
