Chief rabbi of the Jewish Community of the Ukrainian coastal city of Odessa on Tuesday contradicted the allegations that Jews have been preparing to flee the city.

"The news on media claiming that Jews are preparing to leave the country are not true. We will not leave and we are not in any preparation for evacuating Jews from here," said Shlomo Baksht.

Speaking to the Anadolu Agency, he said in his religious role, he would not say anything on the events in the Ukraine.

"The only thing I can do is to pray for peace to be maintained in the country," added Baksht.

Baksht also said that if there is a threat to our security and they are warned by the local authorities to leave, they may temporarily leave Odessa.

"We are in contact with local authorities. Our position will be shaped by their advice. We love Odessa and Ukraine," said Baksht.
