United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday said he would submit a report to the Security Council end of February over settlement talks between Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders.
Speaking to reporters after a four-hour meeting with Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias in Geneva, Ban said the two leaders had achieved progress since the three last met two months ago in New York.
"The two leaders have agreed to intensify talks, which I hope will reduce differences and make further progress. The two communities on Cyprus want no more talks but a settlement," Ban told reporters.
"I do welcome the step the two leaders took today. This is a clear sign towards the reunification of the island in the shortest possible time," he said.
