Turkish Health Minister has said the Turkish minority in Western Thrace should preserve its Turkish and Muslim identity to maintain its existence.
Muezzinoglu, who hails from the region, visited several towns and attended an iftar dinner held in Komotini by a local Istanbul municipality.
The minister said Turkey would always stand by the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
"This place is our severed arm, and we feel the pain in our heart," he said, addressing the gathering at the iftar event. "Do not worry; we will be with you tomorrow as we are with you today. Wherever we have a historical value, we will stand there."
"If we want to be strong in this land as we are now, we need to preserve two important aspects of our identity. First, we are part of the Turkish nation, and second, we are Muslims," he said. "We will persevere in a noble way with these spiritual values."
After the dinner, Muezzinoglu went to his family home in the village of Kozlukepir. The minister is expected to return to Turkey later in the day.
