Sixteen people were detained in Bursa on Thursday in an operation targeting the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C).
Teams from the Bursa Police Department's counter-terrorism unit carried out simultaneous raids in several addresses in the Yıldırım, Osmangazi, Nilüfer and İnegöl districts and detained 16 people including six women. The detainees were taken to the İstanbul Police Department for questioning. Police also seized books, magazines and CDs belonging to the terrorist organization during the raids.
The DHKP/C is a left-wing group that has intensified its activities targeting public servants and state buildings in the past year. The organization made headlines most recently with the US Embassy attack in Ankara on Feb. 1. A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at an entrance to the embassy, killing himself and a Turkish security guard and critically wounding a visiting journalist. Soon after the bombing, the DHKP/C posted a statement on a website claiming responsibility for the attack, after which the group became the subject of intense scrutiny.Güncelleme Tarihi: 05 Temmuz 2013, 10:13
