A total of 166 soldiers in the Turkish military died of various causes in the past year-and-a-half, Turkish Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz said on Thursday in response to a parliamentary question.
The parliamentary question was recently submitted by Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Veli Ağbaba. Yılmaz said 108 soldiers had committed suicide, 40 had died in accidents involving weapons, one had been killed in a work accident while 17 others had died of various causes including poisoning, fights and drowning between Jan. 1, 2012 and July 15, 2013.
Ağbaba stated in the parliamentary question that 934 soldiers had committed suicide between 2002 and 2012, adding that these suicides must be investigated.Güncelleme Tarihi: 22 Ağustos 2013, 17:53
