33 suspects who had been detained for spreading false reports on social media and provoking protests were released on Thursday.

İzmir police detained 34 people on Tuesday and Wednesday for allegedly spreading false information and provoking protests on Twitter.

Protests initially began as a sit in Taksim Gezi Park to protest plans to redevelop the park but broke out in clashes after the police had fired tear gas and used water cannon. More than 900 people have been detained since the protests sparked ten days ago.
