4 PKK extremists 'neutralized' in SE Turkey

World Bulletin / News Desk

Four PKK extremists were killed in Turkey’s southeastern Hakkari province on Sunday, according to the Turkish army.

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said the extremists were killed by tank fire near the Cukurca district of Hakkari.

Including the latest deaths, the total number of extremists killed in operations across Hakkari since Aug. 4 is 338, according to the military. The statement added that 221 of these were in Cukurca.

The province has seen broad anti-extrem operations since the PKK -- listed as a extremist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July last year.

Since then, PKK extremist attacks have martyred more than 600 security personnel and also claimed the lives of many civilians, including women and children, while more than 7,000 PKK extremists have been killed in army operations.
