Turkish officials on Wednesday reported no casualties after a 5.1-magnitude earthquake that jolted eastern Turkey.

Ayhan Yazgan, subgovernor of Palu town of Elazig province, said that no casualties were reported so far, however he added that some of the old adobe houses were damaged in a few villages.

Earlier in the day, Bogazici University's Kandilli Observatory Center and Seismology Institute said that the epicenter of the earthquake was Gokdere hamlet of Elazig's Palu town.

On March 8, an earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale hit the same province, killing 41.

"Based on information we have from villages, a few damaged and old houses collapsed. But there are no reports of serious damage in Gokdere hamlet," Yazgan said.
