Crimea-Turkey ferry service renewed

World Bulletin / News Desk

Russia-occupied Crimea renews its ferry service to Turkey. Sevastopol's priority projects department says "Varyag" ferry starts working on Sevastopol Shipping operator's line between Sevastopol and Zonguldak.

At the moment this is the only direct ferry service with the Ro-Ro vessel (Roll-on / roll-off, the ship on which automotive and railway equipment is loaded on their own) between annexed Crimea and Turkey.

Representatives of Sevastopol Shipping declare that building materials, fruits and vegetables and consumer goods will be imported through this line into the Crimea.

A number of sanctions are imposed against temporarily occupied peninsula, in particular ships registered in sanctions-imposing countries can only moor in Crimean ports in case of emergency, otherwise it is forbidden.

Besides Ukrainian Sea and River Transport Inspectorate shut down all its Crimean ports and banned all ships from entering the occupied peninsula. Owners and captains of the ships, violating Ukraine-imposed ban, will face serious punishment, such as great fines and/or imprisonment.
