Torrential rains and snowfall have paralyzed daily life in eastern Turkey.

Heavy snowfall has paralyzed life in north-eastern province of Ardahan and in Sarikamis town of north-eastern province of Kars on Monday, Anadolu news agency said.

Snow thickness in Sarikamis has reached 4 centimeters.

Snow thickness in Ardahan was recorded as 3 centimeters in higher portions of the province.

Weather temperature in Sarikamis was recorded as -1 degree Celsius on Sunday night.

"Crisis desk"

Flood waters triggered by torrential rains inundated nearly 5 thousand houses in Agri province.

Ibrahim Kosedag, deputy mayor of the province, told the A.A on Monday that torrential rains had been continuing for the last three days.

"Nearly 5 thousand houses remained under flood waters. We asked the Governor's Office to establish a crisis desk," he said.

Agri, in Turkey's border region with Iran, has a population of nearly 532 thousand. Some 90 thousand people live in the city center.
