Turkish Ambassador in Athens Kerim Uras underlined that the two factors, "natural gas and water", became a key for the solution of the Cyprus problem.
"While the Greek Cypriots began exploration for natural gas without consulting with the Turkish Cypriots, natural gas may become an element that could finance a solution in Cyprus. The two sides in Cyprus have expressed that natural gas in and around the island belonged to the two communities. This implies that natural gas may be shared by the two communities," Uras underlined.
"Likewise, water from Turkey will reach the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in spring 2014. Water will arrive in the TRNC via a pipeline. Income received from the sale of water may also contribute to a solution in the island," Uras said.
"Turkish officials, including Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in recent times stressed that they were ready to share the water with the Greek Cypriots. Turkey's constructive attitude is clear," Uras also said.Güncelleme Tarihi: 06 Ekim 2012, 13:10
