The 6th International Abraham Meetings which is sponsored by The Anadolu Agency began Friday in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa.

The opening ceremony of the international event was held at the amphitheatre in the Balikligol (Sacred Lake or Balikli Lake) in Sanliurfa.

The Abraham Meetings have been launched as a goodness movement which reach the whole world starting from Sanliurfa, the birth place of Abraham, the father of the three divine religions.

The event aims at bringing all the humanity together in Abraham's deep profundity.

The goal of Abraham Meetings is to tread in Abraham's steps, following the way he opened 4,000 years ago, in light of profundity of hearts, hospitality, sharing, benevolence, abundance and love of human being and to spread his messages.

Launched on a national basis in 2007, the project took place as an international event as of 2008 extending its scope and vision in order to embrace the whole humanity.

The meeting will start on Friday with "Movement to heart of favour" activity.

The Balikligol, one of Sanliurfa's most popular spots, is where, according to legend, King Nimrod built a huge pyre to sentence Abraham to death. Miraculously, just as Abraham was hurled into the fire, the flames were transformed into water and the logs into fish. Since then, the Balikligol and its carp have been considered sacred.
