With temperatures dropping noticeably in the past few days, municipal police teams have been working to place homeless people stuck on the increasingly cold streets of İstanbul in Alibeyköy's Tevfik Aydemir Sports Hall.
Clean beds and clothing, as well as warm food, have been offered to homeless individuals taking shelter in the sports salon. Medical check-ups are also available. All individuals, be they male or female, young or old, can stay at the hall for as long as the cold weather continues.
One person forced to live on the streets is 32-year-old mother of two Arife Sarı.
Sarı said she had been alternating between living in parks and at bus stops for the past three months, along with her 3 and 4-year-old children, Özge and Özlem.
Facing a real risk of freezing to death as night temperatures have dropped to 0 degrees Celsius, Sarı came to the Alibeyköy center with the municipal police and her two children.
"After staying with my father for a long time, we moved to my sister's place. But when my sister got married, we were forced to leave. I have been living in parks and at bus stops for the past 90 days. My children and I generally spend the night at the Yedikule bus stop. I really don't know what to do," she said.
