Istanbul provincial governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayor Kadir Topbas have pledge 10 million Turkish lira ($4.6 million) to help the suffering people of Gaza.
The 'Help Gaza Campaign,' which was started by Turkey's Religious Affairs Department in cooperation with the Istanbul governorship and mutfi's office, was launched in the Topkapi district on Tuesday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, mayor Topbas said, 'Humanity is dying and unfortunately all the people do is watch. Despite being in the 21st century, as technology advances so does oppression,' noting that Gaza in in need of water, medicine and most importantly prayers.
Governor Mutlu reminded the crowd who had gathered to mark the campaign that almost 2,000 Palestinians had died and around 10,000 had been injured in Israel's month-long bombing of Gaza's 1.8 million people.
