Istanbul will host the preparatory meeting of the 3rd Nuclear Security Summit which will take place in the Netherlands.
Turkish Foreign Ministry stated, "the third of the Nuclear Security Summits, aiming to prevent the illicit trafficking of nuclear material and nuclear terrorism, and to merge the efforts towards the goal of establishing nuclear security and safety, will be held in the Netherlands in 2014. The first two Summits were held in Washington (12-13 April 2010) and Seoul (26-27 March 2012) respectively."
"The first preparatory meeting of the Summit will take place in Istanbul on 27-28 November 2012, with the participation of high level officials appointed with the task of making proposals to the Heads of States and Governments and their delegations," the ministry said.
"Over fifty states and international organizations, with around 150 representatives will be analyzing the concrete steps taken since the Seoul Summit in March, begin the preparations for the 2014 The Hague Summit and analyze areas of international cooperation," the ministry added.
The ministry said, "the fact that we host this meeting is testimony to the active and constructive contribution that Turkey has been making for the Nuclear Security Summit process from its inception. Turkey's determination to benefit from nuclear energy with the highest security and safety standards as well as its strong principled stand for non-proliferation will be stated once again at a high level at this meeting."Last Mod: 26 Kasım 2012, 09:42
