Turkish National Education Minister Omer Dincer on Monday said that the number of first graders in Turkey rose to 1.75 million in the 2012-2013 education year from 1.28 million in the previous education year.
Speaking at the Anadolu Agency's (AA) Editorial Desk meeting at the agency's headquarters in Ankara as guest speaker, Omer Dincer said that around 550,000 students aged between 66 months and 72 months and 120,000 students aged between 60 months and 66 months registered in the new education year.
Answering a question on which elective courses students chose most in the 2012-2013 education year, Minister Dincer said that 593,000 students chose mathematics, 495,000 students chose foreign languages while 479,000 students chose the Holy Qur'an as elective courses.
