An oil tanker which was en-route from Greece to Georgia ran aground in the entrance of the Canakkale Strait, in northwestern Turkey, on Tuesday.
The Italian-flagged, 175-metres long and 25,400 gross ton heavy vessel "Meteora" yawed near Tavsan Island in the entrance of Canakkale Strait.
Grounded on near the island, the vessel's captain informed the Canakkale Vessel Traffic Services Management (VTS) about the situation.
Officials asked the captain to hold without any moves and stated that a towing boat would be sent to the area for security.
