An academy in Ramallah selected Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan the "Man of the Year".

Board of Trustees of the "Modern Academy" will send an exceptional present to Erdogan: a gold plated genuine piece from the dome of the "Dome of the Rock Mosque" in the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

The dome of the mosque was replaced between 1992 and 1996.

Dr. Huseyin Siyuhi, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Modern Academy, said Erdogan was a very bold leader and deserved the award for what he had done for the Palestinian people and cause.

The gold plated piece was one of the pieces taken and kept from the dome of the mosque while it was restored between 1992 and 1996 by Jordanian King Hussein. The pieces are presented to leading people of the Islamic world.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the academy, Siyuhi said Palestinian people did much for the solution of problems of Palestinian people and exerted efforts for human rights of the Palestinians.

He said Erdogan confronted Israel because of particularly its attack on Gaza 1.5 years ago and extended a significant support to the removal of the embargo imposed on Gaza.

Siyuhi said Palestinian administration's President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed and approved selection of Erdogan as "Man of the Year".
