Regional workshop against drug trafficking starts in Turkey

The "First Regional Workshop on Fight against Illicit Drug Trafficking" has begun in Istanbul with the participation of ministers and experts from Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Jordan.

Making opening remarks of the workshop, Ahmet Pek from the Turkish Security Department said that fight against synthetic drugs required a very serious cooperation among regional countries.

"Traffickers use a route from the west to the east via Turkey to send synthetic drugs. We have to cooperate for a successful fight against drug trafficking. The workshop aims at creating a network to share our experiences. We also have to share scientific and technological developments. Thousands of law enforcement officers from 63 countries have received training at the Turkish International Academy Against Drugs and Organized Crimes since 2000," he added.

The workshop will end on June 17.
