Second Anatolia clup clinches Turkish title in soccer history

Bursaspor clinched the Turkish title on Sunday, becoming only the second club outside the Istanbul 'big three' to win the league as favourites Fenerbahce drew with Trabzonspor in a nail biting finish to the season.

Playing at home in the north western city of Bursa, the surprise champions beat last year's winners Besiktas 2-1 thanks to a goal from Pablo Batalla and an own goal from Ibrahim Toraman.

In Istanbul, Daniel Guiza had put Fenerbahce ahead but Burak Yilmaz equalised for Trabzonspor.

The victory, in the final game of the season, left Bursaspor on 75 points ahead of Fenerbahce on 74 points.

Bursaspor are also the fifth club to clinch the Turkish league title in its 52-year history.

Fenerbahce who had entered the final day with a one point lead over Bursaspor, failed to secure the title following a 1-1 draw with Trabzonspor at their home.

Diyarbakirspor, Denizlispor and Ankaraspor were relegated from the Turkcell Super League to the Bank Asya League First Division while Karabukspor and Bucaspor qualified to the Turkcell Super League. The third team to join the Super League will be the winners of the play-off matches.

Bursaspor will directly join the Champions League while Fenerbahce will play qualifying round matches. Galatasaray, Besiktas and Trabzon will play in the UEFA Europa League.
