With a cold-front moving into the county from Ukraine, temperatures across the nation are expected to drop by 10 degrees Celsius, while sleet is expected in İstanbul.

Snow has already fallen in the Thracian regions of western Turkey, where overnight storms dumped a blanket of snow in Kırklareli and Edirne over the past two days. Temperatures are not expected to exceed 1 degree Celsius in either of the two provinces.

The Beyazıt Fire Tower was lit up in red, alerting İstanbulites of snow on Tuesday morning.

The tower's light is blue during clear weather, green when it is rainy, yellow when it is foggy and red when it snows. The İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality has taken measures to avoid problems resulting from the forecasted snow. “Mass transportation must be used during heavy snowfall and cars must be equipped with winter tires,” İstanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş said, cautioning the city's residents.

In the meantime, visibility decreased by as much as 15 meters on the D-100 highway near Bolu Mountain. Highway authorities sent teams to clear the snow on the road, warning drivers to drive slowly and carefully and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
