Heavy snowfall that started on Saturday afternoon and continued throughout the night has shut down roads in rural areas across several cities in the eastern part of Turkey.

Nine village roads were shut down in Mus where high areas were left with as much as 20 centimeters of snow, while downtown Mus got up to 7 centimeters.

The nearby city of Bitlis was also badly hit, and heavy snowfall brought road closures in 16 villages.

The lowest temperatures of the night were recorded as minus 4 degrees Celcius in Erzurum, Kars and Ardahan; minus 2 in Igdir, minus 1 in Agri, and 0 degrees in Erzurum.

The blizzard that started on Saturday afternoon and continued throughout the night dumped 17 cm of snow in Erzurum, 13 cm in Ardahan, and 8 cm in Kars; and brought 462 road closures in rural areas of Agri, 50 in Igdir, 26 in Ardahan and 22 in Kars as the crews are struggling to keep up.

On the other hand, 40 cm of snow were recorded at Bayraktepe Ski Center, and downtown Sarikamis got as much as 20 cm.
