Three suspects detained on Friday in the southern Turkish province of Adana in connection with the discovery of two buses laden with machine gun bullets were released on Tuesday pending a trial.

Turkish security forces have seized before weapons and munitions allegedly smuggled to Syria where rebel fighters battle army forces and groups loyal to the government to topple Syria's President Bashar al-Assad in a nearly three-year-old civil war that killed more than 100,000 people and forced millions of others to flee into neighboring countries.

In the latest incident in November last year in Adana, the Turkish police confiscated nearly 1,000 pieces of what appeared to be empty mortar shells and howitzer bullet casings in a truck reportedly destined for Syria.
