Three immigrants with Syrian, Burmese and Afghan origin, died when their boat sank off Cesme district of western Izmir province of Turkey on Monday.

Illegal immigrants were trying to sneak abroad, when their dinghy deflated and sank in the Ovacık Catalazmak hamlet of Cesme, Izmir Governor Mustafa Toprak told AA.

Toprak stated that Turkish Coast Guard teams rescued 29 illegal immigrants while finding the dead bodies of three.

Taken to Cesme Public Hospital mortuary for autopsy, the corpses of two women and a boy were examined by Public Prosecutor Davut Yılmaz

Security forces caught 7 illegal immigrants, who escaped after the event, in Catalazmak hamlet in Izmir. They were taken to District Gendarmerie Command for interrogation.

Search and rescue efforts continue in the region between Cesme coast and Chios Island to find the 4 people who are still unaccounted for .
