It has been revealed that a would-be suicide bomber who was brought under the control of Turkish police in Istanbul on Saturday is a known member of the banned DHKP-C group.
The woman, who had disguised herself in a burqa, attracted suspicion when she was seen outside a police station in Istanbul's Kagithane district.
On realizing she had been spotted, she attempted to flee the scene in a taxi which was later stopped by police.
After she was arrested, a bomb and a detonator were found in her bag. The women was then identified as 23-year-old B.E., who was found to be on the list of wanted DHKP-C terrorists.
Security has since been tightened in Istanbul.
DHKP-C is internationally recognized as being an extreme leftist terrorist group that has targeted Turkey over the years.
