Turkey has turned over chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) to China.

The two-day summit hosted by China began on Tuesday and aims to increase dialogue, mutual trust and collaboration within the Asian continent.

Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu attended the summit on behalf of the Turkish president and announced the transfer of CICA chairmanship to China.

Davutoglu voiced confidence in the summit, saying it "will be a turning point for peace, stability and cooperation."

Establised in 1992, the CICA has 24 member states, and another nine countries and four international organizations have observer status.

Qatar and Bangladesh, previously observers, joined the CICA as the new member states, bringing to 26 the number of member states of the CICA.
