Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz reiterated on Wednesday that Turkey does not seek to enrich uranium.
The allegations stem from a clause in the Turkish-Japanese nuclear power station agreement which allows uranium enrichment. Japanese officials earlier claimed the clause was added upon the Turkish side’s request.
The claims regarding Turkey’s nuclear ambitions were intended to damage Turkey's image on the international arena, said Yildiz in his remarks to Turkish Ambassadors at their 6th annual meeting in capital Ankara.
"Turkey has signed many agreements as such with countries like Canada, France, Russia, Argentina and the US. We haven't face any crisis or risks so far," he said. "Suddenly, some allege that Turkey has nuclear ambitions."
The issue was also brought up in the Japanese parliament last week.Güncelleme Tarihi: 16 Ocak 2014, 10:28
